How they built the bunkers...
2023-02-10 - Archive

Upon coming across a few bunkers I started wondering how they built them... As lucky as I was, I was recently gifted a handful of civil defense films, one of them featured the technical specifications of bunkers.
Though sadly the films aren't in the greatest condition, the start and end of this one is missing, as it crumbled to pieces.

Places where the protective buildings should be built
Shelters with industrial made equipment and fast set up shelters in zones at danger of complete destruction.
Shelters of fast set up style and anti-radiation shelters in zones of radioactive contamination.

Basic requirements for industrial bunkers

  • Protective requirements: Must protect against all means of attack by enemy.
  • Capacity: At minimum 150 people.
  • Ability to support life: has ventilation, water supply, sewage, electricity and other systems to support life for a long period of time.

Basic requirements and rules of a bunker or a shelter

  1. A shelter must be ready after hearing a signal "air raid".
  2. In protective buildings it is forbidden to smoke, make noise, light up candles or lights, take in unnecessary items or animals.
  3. The commander's tasks:
  • After filling up the shelter must organize resting shifts for the people.
  • After the nuclear blast must organize the inspection of the shelters condition and a short mission to gather intelligence of the surroundings.
  • Must make sure the air ventilation systems and exits are working as intended.

And here the film ends, so that's that :)
